TCPUG members,

I wanted to take a few minutes to thank everyone for participating on Monday and share a few thoughts.

First, I want to address the lack of quarterly meetings over the last year. Up until 2008 this group tried hard to have a meeting every quarter. During 2007 the number of attendees at these quarterly meetings dropped below 20. Also, getting users to present has become increasingly challenging.

Second, at our annual conference this year we were able to put together a full set of presentations ONLY if we allowed all of the vendors to present. This was not our desire but when there were no responses to several requests for presenters we were left with the decision of letting vendors present or canceling the event.

The bottom line is this is a group that should represent and benefit the users of PTC technology. It needs participation from the users in order to be successful. We (the board) can’t force people to participate. If you have seen value in the networking and educational opportunities this group has had in the past then please consider how you and the people around you can participate at a higher level.

I have been contemplating using more social networking tools to help facilitate communication and encourage more ad-hoc participation. We already have a Linked In group but there are other tools that may be even more useful for the members of this group to share ideas, tips, etc. without attending quarterly meetings.

If you have any thoughts here please pass them along.

Also, please pass along your thoughts on the annual event and how we can best encourage participation in the future.

Sincerely,

Thane Hathaway
Chairman of the TCPUG Board

Understanding Where to use 1D vs. 2/3D Tolerance Analysis in Your Organization
A new 1D Tolerance Analysis Extension is now available as an optional module in Wildfire 4 and beyond. This module was developed in partnership with Sigmetrix and is powered by CETOL Technology. When should tolerance analysis be used in your organization? When are 1D tolerance stacks sufficient and when should you use the full 2/3D package? What kind of decisions can be made with a tolerance analysis package? These questions are answered through a short presentation and a live demonstration that shows both tools and provides context as to the kind of problems where each tool excels.
Ed Walsh, Sigmetrix

11:00 a.m.
Windchill ProductPoint – Windows SharePoint Based Pro/ENGINEER Data Management
Last December PTC unveiled a Pro/ENGINEER data manager built on the Windows SharePoint platform. This solution is called Windchill ProductPoint. Join us for a live demonstration of this powerful tool and take an opportunity to ask an EAC Microsoft Certified Windchill ProductPoint Expert your questions.
Larry Fortier, EAC Product Development Solutions

Automating Pro/ENGINEER with a Pro/TOOLKIT Focus
It is more important than ever to be able to do more with less. Use Pro/TOOLKIT to improve efficiencies by automating manual tasks and extending Pro/ENGINEER functionality.
Rick Passolt, Fishbowl Solutions

11:40 a.m.
Lunch – Box lunches provided free of charge for registered participants only.

Todd Kraft, PTC

Designing over molding, soft touch and living hinges for prototyping and tooling
With new prototyping equipment over molding, soft touch and living hinged parts can be produce in 2-3 days. Pros and cons are exposed when it comes to your design. Find out how it works and the benefits you gain when you go into tooling.
Dan Mishek, VistaTek

3:00 p.m.
Pro/ENGINEER Manikin Extension
Pro/ENGINEER Manikin Extension is a comprehensive digital human modeling solution that will help optimize your product for human-product interactions
Todd Kraft, PTC

3D Drawings and Pro/ENGINEER
We will introduce the concept of 3D drawings, review ASME Y14.41, and demonstrate relevant Pro/ENGINEER functionality.
Kent Zehrer, CyberOptics

3:50 p.m.
Take Time to Follow the Rules
Tips on using rules in layers, simplified reps, and templates
Mark Ganzer, Lockheed Martin

NetRegulus – See how PTC’s regulatory compliance software helps engineers react to problems
NetRegulus (NetRM) is PTC’s solution for Regulatory compliance. Companies producing federally regulated products, especially Medical Devices, face enormous challenges to effectively manage product and process quality while operating “under the microscope” of regulatory supervision. What happens when something goes wrong and/or change is required? NetRM empowers Pro/E users to be part of the solution and to help better address Complaints, Non-Conformances, and CAPA events (corrective action preventative actions). This presentation will focus on a titanium alloy dental screw that met all design requirements but experienced unforeseen issues upon field deployment, ultimately leading to a CAPA event. See how the Windchill integration with NetRegulus allowed Pro/E users to help indentify the cause, solve the mystery, correct the flaw and close the CAPA.
